1. Rhythm- a strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound.
2.Directional Movement -
A component of the Directional Movement system. Directional movement is the larger part of today
3.Proportion / Scale- Round device used to calculate percent that an original image must by
reduced or enlarged to yield a specific reproduction size. Also called
percentage wheel, proportion dial, proportion
wheel and scaling wheel.
4.Balance- As a basic principle of art (specifically of design), the definition of
balance refers to the ways in which the elements (lines, shapes, colors,
textures, etc.) of a piece are arranged. Balance is one of those useful
terms to know, if one is to employ Art Speak.
5.Unity- the state of being united or joined as a whole.
6. Harmony- brings together a composition with similar units.
If your composition was using wavy lines and organic shapes you would stay
with those types of lines and not put in just one geometric shape. (Notice
how similar Harmony is to Unity)
7. Contrast- Contrast is a principle of art. When defining it, art experts refer to
the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs.
smooth textures, large vs. small shapes, etc.) in a piece so as to
create visual interest, excitement and drama.
8. Emphasis (Focal Point / Center of interest)-
